Scenes from Metamorphoses - by Mary Zimmerman
The ancient tale of Greek Mythos by Ovid with a contemporary juxtaposition and re-imagining will be relived again through Scenes from Metamorphoses. Timelessness, water, and repetition of archetypal tales are the composers of transformation for characters, divine and mortal. Perhaps you know the story of Midas, Apollo’s son, or even Eros and Psyche, but the re-telling will allow you to re-think what you thought you believed. (The 2002 Tony winner for best directing and nominated for Best Play and Best Scenic Design)
Our Performance of "Meta" received FIRST PLACE at MSHSAA Districts and FOURTH PLACE at State!
Love, Loss, and What I Wore - by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron, based on the book by Ilene Beckerman
It is the most tangible of life-changing moments that seem intangible: it is the wrap-around-dress, the boots, purses or the favorite shirt-the clothing and styles connect us to these memories. Somehow the outfits, fabrics and prints provide a back-drop for our stories. Maybe it is not what I wore but what I made happen or what happened to me when I wore it. And perhaps there is a reason why there is no such thing as “the new black.”2015-2016 Season

Dehumanization
is defined as the deprivation of human qualities or attributes; divest of
individuality. Individuality can be suppressed when put into a system. Numbers
and figures represent a miniscule portion of all that a human has to offer.
"You can’t take something as complex as the human mind, compartmentalize
it, and regiment its development so strictly." We are all human beings, do
not destroy. This
piece explores how equalization in slavery extinguishes our acknowledgement and
acceptance of one’s individual light. “Dehumanization
isn’t a way of talking. It’s a way of thinking—a way of thinking that, sadly,
comes all too easily to us. Dehumanization is a scourge, and has been so for
millennia. It acts as a psychological lubricant, dissolving our inhibitions and
inflaming our destructive passions. As such, it empowers us to perform acts
that would, under other circumstances, be unthinkable.”
Elephant Graveyard: One Act
Elephant's
Graveyard: The true tale of the tragic collision of a struggling circus and a
tiny town in Tennessee, which resulted in the only known lynching of an
unlikely victim -- an elephant. Set in September of 1916, the play combines
historical fact and legend, exploring the deep-seated American craving for
spectacle, violence and revenge. This is the mob mentality that perpetuates
violence and injustice.

Journey to the World’s Edge: A Folk Tale in the Irish Tradition
Isolated by her parents, shunned and mocked by villagers, Brigid leaves the house that has confined her since infancy to seek a magical wish that will make her like the other girls of her village. She is sent on a journey of three tests to meet the sage at the world’s edge. As Brigid seeks to change her affliction, she learns to question what it means to be different.
The Caged Bird, Still Singing
(Third Place in Readers Theatre MSHSAA State Competition)
This compilation about women addresses the ever-changing roles of humanity and the current crisis for half of the population locally, nationally, and globally. The hope: promises and commitments to explore, envision, and narrate a more loving and cohesive world for all of us. “Properly defined, feminism is a philosophy that embraces basic rights for all human beings without exception—without regard to race, religion, sex, size, age, location, disability or parentage. Feminism rejects the use of force to dominate, control or destroy anyone.” Serrin M. Foster
The Bald Soprano
(Third Place in One Act MSHSAA State Competition)
This is the anti-play: the exploration of language and our inability to communicate; the dreadfulness of appearances/ small talk/ and social norms; the mediocrity and aimlessness of daily life as well as existence. It is the comedy and the tragedy of humanity.
